Pioneer Group - Research & Development
New Technology, Research & Development Services
Your unsolved problem is a chance for us to do our best! Pioneer Professional Services Group understands that the conventional methods of dealing with contaminated waste, such as land-filling and deep well injection, are not practical long-terms options for most of us. This is especially the case as landfill space gets more cost-prohibitive and water more valuable. The reality is that dealing with contaminated waste with a “dig and dump” approach is not generally economically viable and certainly not environmentally sustainable. Pioneer’s research goals are to develop our own environmentally sustainable technologies and processes to deal with these issues or to work with others, who have the means or expertise, to develop their own strategies.
To provide the markets and opportunities that will make your ideas happen. Pioneer will also provide the services that allow sustainable remediation technologies to be perfected and commercialized with the goal of bringing awareness of new sustainable practices to industry.
So what can we do?
- Conduct market feasibility studies
- Prepare research funding application documents
- Conduct engineered review of the feasibility of products
- Determine process improvements
- Provide project management consulting services to demonstrate product in the field, soil and ground water testing, and 3rd party reporting
- Develop field techniques to test technology
The Need…
Pioneer Professional Services Group recognizes the issue of disposing of and treating impacted industrial waste waters and the recovery of fresh water is a growing concern for many industries, especially for those industries in which water is integral part of their entire process. Examples of some of the industries that typically utilize and dispose of a lot of water are the oil and gas sector, oil sands sector, as well as the mining industry.
As environmental laws for the use of fresh water for industrial purposes become more restrictive and disposal methods become more costly our clients will be seeking better ways to deal with their waste water issues.
Conventional disposal techniques currently involve, but are not limited to, down whole injection and retention ponds. However, many of these traditional methods are becoming an environmental concern as they are drawing down native fresh water supplies and their disposal have repeatedly demonstrated potential an environmental risk to surface and groundwater supplies. As such, Pioneer Professional Services Group has developed its own ED2 water treatment technology to help our clients recycle a large portion of their waste water for industrial reuse.
The Technology…
Pioneer (ED2) is a modified patented electrodialysis process that allows for the remediation of high TDS feedwaters. Electrodialysis is used to transport salt ions from one solution through ion-exchange membranes to another solution under the influence of an applied electrical potential difference. This is done in a configuration called an electrodialysis cell. The cell consists of a feedwater compartment and a concentrate (brine) compartment formed by an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane placed between two electrodes.
In almost all practical electrodialysis processes, multiple electrodialysis cells are arranged into a configuration called an electrodialysis stack, with alternating anion and cation exchange membranes forming the multiple electrodialysis cells. Electrodialysis processes are unique compared to distillation techniques and other membrane-based processes (such as reverse osmosis) in that dissolved species are moved away from the feed stream rather than the reverse.
In the past electrodialysis has been limited due to high TDS issues that can cause excessive scaling and interfere, with the electrodialysis plates. However, Pioneer’s ED2 has its own patented pre-treatment techniques that prevent scaling, making the system more efficient delivering an 85% or greater recovery rate.
